By extending an invitation to Acadians and tourists from around the world, the Acadian region of Southwest Nova Scotia is opening its doors to more than 400 years of history. It all started right here! The region’s terrain is proof of the strength, resilience and determination of the Acadian people. Listen to the words of its inhabitants to discover all the colours of a rich history and the flavours of an Acadie that is unquestionably contemporary.

Located near the town of Yarmouth, the Acadian region of Southwest Nova Scotia is comprised of the municipalities of Clare and Argyle. Together, they form the largest concentration of Acadians and francophones in rural Nova Scotia.

Acadian pride is clearly evident all over Southwest Nova Scotia. From the road signs to the flags that fly on building fronts to the decorations that adorn the homes, the Acadian colours are an integral part of the region’s visual landscape.

Held every five years since 1994, the Congrès mondial acadien is an international gathering of Acadian culture. Its mission is to fortify the ties among Acadian communities around the world. The event also allows host municipalities to showcase their part of the world on an international scale.
